Today at this digital age, almost all of our needs are fulfilled by or with the help of digital platforms. And on the top of that list entertainment has significantly relied on digital mediums. With the increase in demand for new dynamic content digital mediums like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ have provided audiences with a vast spectrum of new and classical content to hook up with. While all these platforms are giving each other a top-notch competition, Netflix surely has been beating its competitors in the race.

1. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? (1993) 

This emotional drama is the story about Gilbert Grape played by Johnny Depp and his relation with his morbidly obese mother and mentally challenged brother played by young Leonardo DiCaprio.  Even though the movie is a bit slow in its pace, the marvelous acting performance by Leonardo DiCaprio single-handedly takes this classic movie to another level. Critically applauded by critics this movie is a must-watch if you are a DiCaprio or a Johnny Depp fan.

2. Goodfellas (1990) 

Goodfellas is a crime/drama by Martin Scorsese which tells the story about 1970’s New York gangster Henry Hill who rose through the ranks of organized crime. This directorial masterpiece stands out in all the aspects. Starring Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci, Goodfellas is considered to be one of the best crime/ drama movies ever to be made. 

3. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) 

Written by Stephen King, this classic is one of those movies which will leave you with a mixed bag of emotions. The Shawshank Redemption starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins is the story about a banker who is sentenced to prison for the murder of his wife and her lover. If there is a list of movies that stood the test of time, this movie will definitely take its place on one of the top spots with the likes of The Godfather, Citizen Kane and Schindler’s List. 

4. The Stranger (1946)

This Noir/Thriller movie by Orson Welles in which he stars too is a story about a war crimes investigator who is on a hunt of a Nazi fugitive. Although the movie has few flaws, there are many scenes which are considered as few of the greatest scenes ever shot. The Stranger, at times can get scary as it presents documentary footage of the Holocaust. In Fact it’s the first Hollywood movie to do so. 

5. Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979)

If you are a fan of satirical movies then Monty Python’s Life of Brian is a platter you must have. This British comedy written by and starring the comedy group Monty Python is a story about a young Jewish man. He is born on the same day as Jesus but just next door. This classic comedy is by far one of the funniest movies available on Netflix.

6. Raiders of the Lost Ark ( 1981) 

Directed by Spielberg, this action/ adventure about the man, the myth, the legend; Indian Jones is the first one in Indiana Jones (franchise) and considered the best one among the four installments. Set In 1936, the story is about an archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones who is hired by the U.S. government to find the biblical artifact; Ark of the Covenant. This mission takes Indiana Jones to many adventurous places from Nepal to Egypt. If you want to watch an adventure movie to start your day with, Raiders of the Lost Ark is the piece of cake you want on your breakfast.
