Matters of Maternal Health – Being a mother isn’t easy

Every year hundreds of thousands of women lose their lives during childbirth. While the science and technology in the developed countries is skyrocketing, it’s really inhuman to acknowledge that people in third world countries lose their life due to minor complications during pregnancy which could easily be taken care of. From walking 5 miles to go to the hospital for a check-up to fear of getting ambushed by a bomb during the delivery, for many women giving birth to a child isn’t easy. It is estimated around 90% of the deaths suffered by women as a result of pregnancy are preventable.

The situation of maternal mental and physical health in various places in the world is bleak. Here we have listed a few documentaries about maternal health that will give you a whole new perspective:

Sister: A Documentary About The Global Crisis Of Maternal Mortality

Six Year Old Fears

This short documentary is about a six-year-old Syrian girl who is about to become a big sister. The only unusual thing is she and her mother are in a refugee camp. Although her mother is about to give birth to a child in a numerically safe place, she and thousands of other pregnant mothers and their family’s future is uncertain.
