Longer Long Distance

Longer Long Distance

1225 miles – that is how far apart my partner and I live.

The four pillars of our relationship are trust, understanding, daily video calls and travel dates – which is based on the foundation of love, obviously!

So you know what hits us really hard? Lockdown and TRAVEL BANS!

Living in separate countries – miles apart, while both of us working on our respective careers, we depend highly on setting a travel date and saving up for it to meet each other and stay sane basically. So, the uncertainty of not knowing when we will get to see each other definitely affects our state of mind.

It is no joke that long distance relationships are more difficult than normal romantic relationships. The physical distance, busy schedules and different time zones not just play with their emotions but also affect their mental health. And the uncertainty of when the travel bans will be called off and the possibility of further travel to be more expensive due to the exponential price hike puts more pressure on the mental health of long distance couples.

There are more than 12 million long distance couples in the world. Many of them rely on meeting each other once or twice a year (based on how much they can afford). Many of them had already set a date. Many of them had booked tickets and were probably extremely excited to see the love of their lives. However, the unpredicted travel bans and lockdown played the role of an antagonist in this story.

Like Iron Man said ‘The Earth is Closed.’ And the villains are dancing around us. So, how do we defeat the villains? How do we not let them affect our relationship?

Like I said in the beginning, the four pillars of our relationship are trust, understanding, daily video calls and travel dates. One of the pillars has weakened a bit. So, let’s hold on to the foundation of love a little more strongly, okay?

  2. It must be hard to be so far apart. I spend literally most of my life with partner in severals meters around me. it must be so tough with date cancelled

  3. I’ve never had a long distance relationship before. I can only imagine how tough that is. I definitely agree, though, that trust and understanding must be there no matter the distance.

    1. This lockdown made everyone realize how difficult it is to maintain a long distance relationship.Yes, trust and understanding are the foundation of every relationship.

  4. I know how it’s like to be in a long distance relationship, as I used to be for a few years before me and my partner started to live together. It is definitely not easy, but the time when we were apart I used for expressing myself in creative ways, we talked via web cam almost everyday, for real and time just went so fast until we were met again. Stay strong and positive, time really goes so fast..:)
